During the weekend of January 11-12th, our 14’s and 15’s travel teams competed in the New England Winterfest #1 tournament in Hartford, CT.  They started off our travel season strong with all 6 teams qualifying for the medal rounds.


15 Blue finished in 5th place out of 32 teams in the 15 USA Division.  They won their opening pool on Saturday, going undefeated (3-0, 6-0) against Brooklyn Elite High Rise, Northeast 15-2 and Gators Black, which advanced them to the Gold Medal bracket.  On Sunday morning they lost a close back and forth match to South Country 15-Open, 2-1 (25-18, 22-25, 14-16), then closed with a 2-0 win over fellow GEVA team Performance Navy (25-17, 25-13) to claim 5th place.


15 Gold had our best finish of the weekend, earning 3rd place in the 15 USA Division.  They started off the tournament with a close 2-1 loss to Husky Northeast (26-24, 23-25, 12-15) but bounced back with 2-0 wins over Long Island rivals LI Blaze and South Bay.  They finished the day in a 3-way tie for first place at 2-1 and claimed the pool win with a 5-2 set record, which advanced them to the Gold Metal bracket.  In the Sunday playoffs, they won their first match 2-0 over GVC Elite (25-16, 25-13) but fell to CMASS Vortex 2-0 in the semi-finals, leaving them in a tie for 3rd place out of 32 teams.


15 White competed in the 15 Club Division and was our third team to advance to the Gold Medal bracket.  The won their pool on Saturday with close 2-1 wins over both Husky New England (25-20, 22-25, 26-24) and Aspire Blue (25-14, 23-25, 25-22).  In the playoffs they lost to Legacy National 2-0, but bounced back to beat Long Island’s CALI Red 2-1 (14-25, 25-18, 15-11) in a consolation match to finish in a tie for 5th place out of 31 teams.


15 Black was also in the 15 Club Division and finished 21st out of 31 teams. They had a tough start, losing 2-0 to Xtreme National (28-30, 12-25) and B&B White (25-17, 25-23) before earning their first win over CT Stars Under Armor 2-0 (25-14, 25-22).  They finished in third place in their pool and advanced to the Bronze Medal bracket, where they lost a close 2-1 match to CMASS Turbo (25-20, 22-25, 12-15).  They won their final match 2-0 over the Blast Badgers.


14 Blue played in the 14 USA Division and started with a 2-0 loss to HardRock Black.  However, that was their only loss of the tournament.  They won their next two pool matches 2-0 over Maine Jrs Silver (25-14, 25-13) and 2-1 over Dynamo New Hampshire (25-18, 20-25, 15-8).  They finished in second place in their pool and earned a spot in the Silver Medal bracket.  They continued their winning ways in the playoffs, defeating Alliance Elite 2-0 in the semi-finals and CT Juniors Blue 2-0 (25-19, 25-16) in the bracket finals to claim the Silver Medal and 5th place out of 16 teams in the division.


14 Gold was in the 14 Club Division and finished in a tie for 11th place out of 20 teams.  They won their first two matches 2-0 over Sound VBC and Elevation Volleyball Academy (EVA) and came up just short of an undefeated pool with a close 2-1 loss to NYBlast (25-18, 12-25, 19-21) in their third match.  They finished in second place in the pool and advanced to the Silver Medal bracket.  Their playoffs consisted of a 3-team mini-pool where they lost two tough matches to Advance (25-22, 26-28, 9-15) and Essex (16-25, 25-21, 13-15).
